Army Officer

Captain Carbery will talk about her experience of serving as an Infantry Officer and a peacekeeper in a traditionally male-dominated sector. She will challenge traditional views on women in the military and ideas around masculinity and femininity in today’s contemporary operational environment.


As an Infantry Officer in the Irish Defence Forces. Captain Carbery has served as Platoon Commander with UNIFIL in Lebanon, has instructed in the United Nations Training School Ireland and the Peace Support Training Centre in Kingtson, Canada on Gender, Human Rights and Protection of Civilians and has trained multiple infantry soldiers during her 14 year career.
