The only way for empowerment is awareness

“I think awareness and empowerment are the key elements to make real changes though it takes time, it is important to provide consistency for sustainable development. Also for providing peaceful methods to deal with conflicts, awareness on how to recognise violence and abuse in all its kinds is essential.”

Shokh Mohammed Mahmood talks about participation in the society, and taking responsibility on becoming real citizens, and conducting the beliefs of self ownership as in being, these three concepts are the foundation of conducting peace. 

Shokh Mohammad, from Iraq (Erbil, Kurdish region). Shokh is a Project Officer of the WADI Project on female genital mutilation and an Assistant Lecturer at the University of Sulaymaniyah. She is active in the humanitarian fields related to gender based violence.
