“I am motivated to work on climate-related security risks in Iraq because I witnessed how the rapid change in the climate is disturbing peoples’ lives and instigating conflicts. Climate change impact on water is a more prominent issue in the South of Iraq where the livelihoods of several communities are under increased risk. This caused migration towards cities and heightened competition over resources.”
