Chiara de Cesari

Associate professor European Studies and Cultural studies - UvA

“My research is important because I am very much committed to international and interdisciplinary collaboration. I believe it is important to discuss the traces of colonial heritage because these are still very present today and discussing it can be a great contribution to peace and justice. Combining art, heritage, memory and cultural history can lead to new insights on European Identity and a future of peace and justice.”

Chiara de Cesari’s wide-ranging research explores how forms of memory, heritage, art, and cultural politics are shifting under conditions of contemporary globalization and state transformation. Currently she also focuses on the Ownership, Value and The Question of colonial heritage in museums. Chiara leads a major Dutch Research Council-funded Vidi project on “Imagining Institutions Otherwise: Art, Politics, and State Transformation.”
