Everyone can play a part to normalize LGBT+ inclusion

“Growing up, I did not have role models who could represent me, so the discovery and acceptance of myself came from a journey very much on my own which was at times challenging.  If we can start and continue the conversation on diversity and inclusion, we can normalise it. I believe society can benefit from the awareness and practice of diversity and inclusion raised through stories of lived experiences, especially in the context of conservative culture such as in Asia.”

Charlene Liu was born in Malaysia and has lived in the US, Singapore, and China.  She is an engineer, community leader, and diversity and inclusion advocate. Charlene has 17 years of community leadership, commercial event management, and Diversity & Inclusion (D&I) advocacy experience.  She co-founded ShanghaiPRIDE, Q-Events, Ladies Who Tech, and D&I Consulting DNIC. Recently, she was elected as an Executive Board Member, Women Representative of ILGA Asia. In 2014, she and team ShanghaiPRIDE were awarded Shanghai Hero by Time Out Shanghai, and in 2018, Best Event Organizer in East China by Huodongxing.
