“I am motivated by the principles of UN charter and the conviction that the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are our best hope for a peaceful, fair and inclusive future that leaves no one behind. I believe our work is pivotal to making the necessary transformative shifts to deliver a breakthrough for people and planet, like  sparking a green, just energy transition and revamping our financial system.  I am optimistic that these changes are possible and that youth is key to make them happen.”

Achim Steiner has been the Administrator for the UN Development Programme (UNDP) since 2017. He is also the vice-chair of the U.N. Development Group, which unites the 32 U.N. funds, programs, specialized agencies and other bodies that work to support sustainable development. For over nearly three decades, Steiner has been a global leader on sustainable development, climate resilience and international cooperation.
