The global conversation on how to deal with climate change is moving fast. Youth are dominating the lobbying of politicians, businesses and governments to go beyond lip service, and really make positive change happen. The Netherlands is at the forefront of discussions, as one of the countries facing severe consequences if action is not taken.

Europe is taking the lead in encouraging a global commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions, promoting green growth and achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.

It goes beyond the inspiration that activists like Greta Thunberg have been providing for many. Many enterprises and multiple entrepreneurs are working on solutions: inspired to both do business and do good.

What better venue to capture the spirit of innovation needed to tackle this challenge, than an edition of HagueTalks in Berlin asking the question: ‘How can our Global Footprints benefit the world?’ It would take place alongside ‘the world’s leading travel trade show’, and provide a space where personal stories and interaction with an driven audience will inspire debate about the actions needed. What conscious decisions can we take to ensure our footprint is net positive? How can we shift the discussions on climate change so it is not just a technical, scientific issue but a human one?

The city of The Hague itself recently scored an ‘A’ grade for  its climate policy including its ambition to be climate neutral by 2030 and its partnerships with housing corporations, NGOs, industry, regional and national government. The Hague was the only city in the Netherlands and 1 of the 9 cities in Europe to achieve this grade.

ABOUT THE SPEAKERS

• Jeanne de Kroon – working with women’s artisanal communities through both the United Nations Ethical fashion initiative in Afghanistan and independent NGO’s worldwide, Jeanne aims to connect consumers back to craftsmanship and co-creation.
• Farah Obaidullah – a long time advocate for healthy oceans. She has spent the past fifteen years working around the world on land and at sea to address the most pressing issues facing the ocean.
• Bonnie Chiu – equips marginalised women with photography training and digital skills; advising clients on social innovation and promoting cross-sector collaboration.
• Jan Stassen- Cultural Translator and Co-Founder of Museum of Values which holds immersive exhibitions on various values such as respect, friendship, freedom, authenticity and joy-of-life.

Our moderator on the day is Jeannette Gusko, a campaign manager, activist and writer with more than 15 years of experience in politics, digital transformation and business strategy.  Jeannette is convinced that we need intersectional approaches and resilient networks to tackle the global challenges we are facing today.
