This is a story of how a young girl challenged and overcame disempowering traditional beliefs and cultural practices that discriminated against the rights of children in the community. It is a story of breaking the culture of silence to a dawn of powerful speeches. With this new dawn, one bold girl is stimulating through peace education new thinking and paving way for new beginnings in her community.

BIOGRAPHY

Kesia-Onam Bijoue Birch is WANEP (GPPAC member)’s Regional Program Officer of the Women in Peacebuilding (WIPNET) and represents WANEP in its partnership with ECOWAS in the implementation of the Women, Peace and Security components of the ECOWAS Conflict Prevention Framework (ECPF). Birch has over fifteen years’ experience in women, peace and security as well as youth and peace education with strong flair for training, Negotiation, mediation, facilitation, manual development and conflict analysis.
